Having visited our Ambassador to the Vatican and the Holy See, Hon Tim Fischer, and strolling through St Peters Basilica, as a PR man in good standing I couldn’t resist the urge to wonder along the Via Di Propaganda.
Just beyond the statue of the Immaculate Conception you come upon Propaganda Fide; formerly the offices of the Holy See, which looked after the concerns of the Australian Church, particularly at the time of Mary MacKillop’s visit to Rome in 1873-74.
Which took me back to a time, much earlier in Jackson Wells’ 20 year existence, when we worked on the cause of the woman who was to be Australia’s first saint.
Back in 1994 the task was to ensure the non-controversial redevelopment of Mary MacKillop’s shrine in North Sydney.
We consulted closely with the local council and neighbours to ensure the plans met with local approval. The development plans were approved without demur.
Heavenly!
