The Taj Foundation is a unique not-for-profit organisation formed to facilitate connection and collaboration between Australians of South Asian1 origin and their broader communities. The Foundation exists to develop social and professional links while raising funds to support the charitable endeavours of members of the Taj community.
The Foundation’s launch event, An Indian Summer, to be held February 25, will raise funds for the Steve Waugh Foundation and Brett Lee’s foundation, Mewsic.
NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell, Consul General of India Amit Dasgputa and recent Miss Earth winner, Nicole Faria, will be at the event along with past and present international cricketers.
Justice Crew will headline the Bollywood themed entertainment while Brett Lee is expected to perform. Danny Bhandari, one of the founders of the Taj Foundation, spoke of his excitement.
“An Indian Summer is the perfect launch event as it really sums up what the Taj Foundation is about,” Mr Bhandari said.
“We want to bring together high-calibre philanthropic individuals.
“Events like this provide a fantastic platform to develop relationships between Australia and South Asia on a social, cultural and professional level.”
Bhandari, who also chairs the Sydney Thunder T20 team, praised the charitable work of Waugh and Lee.
“There’s no hiding the cricket connection for this event, it is a shared passion in both regions and with the Indian and Sri Lankan teams both in Australia it is perfect timing,” Mr Bhandari continued.
“Steve and Brett will always be revered as cricketers, but they should be equally admired for the passion they have for charity.
“It is a privilege for the Taj Foundation to host An Indian Summer to support the Steve Waugh Foundation and Mewsic, which do fantastic work in Australia and India.
“It’s going to be a great night filled with delightful sights, sounds and flavours.”
The Taj Foundation will be launched at An Indian Summer, a black-tie gala dinner at Darling Harbour on February 25
