The next generation of lightweight rescue equipment will be delivered to the Campbelltown SES unit today.
The donated equipment, an Ozpod (a tripod and hauling kit), a special, light-weight stretcher and a two-way vertical movement device (a system of pulleys and ropes), will provide the Campbelltown SES unit with state of the art rescue and retrieval equipment.
The equipment is worth $8,000 and has been generously donated by O'Brien, Australia's leading automotive and building glass replacement company.
Campbelltown State Emergency Service (SES) is now better equipped to assist the community and police with search and rescue emergencies.
The donated equipment will enable Campbelltown unit volunteers to quickly extricate patients from danger and ensure swift medical intervention for the casualty.
Kevan Harder, Campbelltown SES unit controller, said that the donated equipment will greatly improve operations.
"Equipment donated such as the Ozpod tripod and haul kit, which will be used for search and rescue missions, will save us up to 25 minutes in set up time alone," he said.
"The time saved setting up is invaluable for this type of rescue as it can make a difference in providing effective injury treatment to a casualty."
Last year, Campbelltown SES volunteers spent over 5,500 hours providing emergency assistance to the community. The equipment, generously donated by O'Brien, will improve operations at the Campbelltown Unit and will also assist operations from neighbouring units of Camden, Wollondilly and Liverpool if required.
The equipment donation forms part of O'Brien's ongoing partnership with the NSW SES.
Since 2005, O'Brien has provided more than $150,000 in funding to the organisation.
O'Brien Marketing Director, Duncan Ross, said O'Brien is pleased to be supporting the Campbelltown SES.
"We are happy to be supporting the SES in Campbelltown, as this unit provides vital emergency support to surrounding areas and contributes enormously to the safety and wellbeing of the community," Mr Ross said.
